CANTON, Nov. 12 – Senior Fiona McNally had two goals and an assist as the No. 7-seeded Canton High field hockey team advanced to the Class S quarterfinals with a 3-1 decision over No. 10 Valley Regional on Tuesday in the cold and wind on the turf field.

Abby Charron also had a goal as the Warriors improved to 12-4-1 on the season. Valley Regional finishes the year at 10-7. McNally has a team-leading 21 goals on the year.

Goalie Michaela Gay made three saves in net to lead Canton. Margaret Gessner had 13 saves for Valley.

“We played well,” Canton High coach Margaret Bristol said. “The girls were really connected with great passing, great movement of the ball up and down the field.  I felt like they walked onto the field with confidence and played confident the whole game.”

Canton advances to Thursday’s quarterfinals where they will challenge No. 2 North Branford (18-0-1). The Thunderbirds won their third straight Shoreline Conference title last week with a 2-1 win over Westbrook. North Branford beat No. 15 Wamogo-Litchfield on Tuesday in their second round match, 7-0.
