Rome runs for three TDs to lead Granby/Canton to fifth win

Granby/Canton QB Jackson Rome ran for 148 yards and 3 TDs in Saturday’s Pequot Conference win over the Coginchaug co-op team.

DURHAM, Nov. 2 – The Granby/Canton football team caused six turnovers and quarterback Jackson Rome ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns as the Bears improved to 5-2 with a 27-6 Pequot Conference win over the Coginchaug/East Hampton/Hale-Ray football team on Saturday afternoon.

“The defense was dominant with six turnovers caused and the offense was moving the ball up and down the field,” Granby/Canton head coach Erik Shortell said. “Sam Attianese and Colin Makin had great games on both sides of the ball.”

Makin caught one pass for nine yards but on the defensive side of the ball, he intercepted two passes for 20 yards and had seven tackles. Attianese ran for 94 yards and a touchdown offensively while getting four tackles, including one for a loss on defense.

The Bears have forced 26 turnovers in seven games this season. Brady Kaluna, Malik Thompson and Simon Matthews each recovered fumbles for the Bears. Matthews and Derrick Flagg each had six tackles. Disabella had three tackles for a loss.

Rome scored on runs of 66, 6 and 1 yard in the first half to lead the Bears.

Granby/Canton returns to action on Friday night when they head to Coventry to face the Coventry/Windham Tech/Bolton and Lyman Memorial co-op team.
