Top-ranked North Branford eliminates Canton in Class S field hockey, 3-1

NORTH BRANFORD, Nov. 14 – Top-ranked North Branford received goals from three players as the Thunderbirds moved into the semifinals with a 3-1 win over No. 7 Canton Thursday in the Class S quarterfinals.

Ava Galdenzi, Ali Barrett and Olivia Toto scored for North Branford (19-0-1) while goalie Jamie Matthews made three stops in net. The Thunderbirds peppered Canton goalie Michaela Gay, who made 21 saves on 24 shots. North Branford had a 10-5 edge in penalty corners.

Fiona McNally scored off an assist from Ashley Huff for the Warriors, who finish the season at 12-5-1. The Warriors went 7-0-1 in their final eight games before facing the Thunderbirds.
