AVON, Oct. 12, 2022 – Katelyn Wankier had 15 kills and three serving aces while Olivia Evanko had 26 assists as the Avon High girls volleyball team won their fourth match of the season with a 3-0 sweep of East Catholic on Wednesday.
The Falcons (4-8) beat the Eagles, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-21. Jocee Powers had 14 digs and three serving aces for the winners while Paola Ortega had six digs and three aces. East Catholic falls to 3-9 on the season.

HARWINTON, Oct. 12, 2022 – Lewis Mills’ Aidan Carrano and Litchfield High’s Tom Vailionis each shot a 41 to share medalist honors in Wednesday’s non-league boys golf match at Fairfview Farms. The visiting Cowboys came away with a five-stroke win over the Spartans, 174-179.

MIDDLETOWN, Oct. 12, 2022 – Lewis Mills’ Chase Hedrick won by 21 seconds to lead the Spartans to a 15-50 shutout win over the host Dragons Wednesday at Veteran’s Park. Mills swept the top eight spots of the race to earn the shutout.

FARMINGTON, Oct. 11, 2022 – Avon had six of the top eight spots to beat Farmington, 18-42, at Winding Trails on Tuesday in the final dual meet of the season for both teams. William Nusom won his first race of the season, beating teammate Thomas Armistead by two seconds with his winning time of 18:06. Freshman Brahm Bulow finished fourth with a personal record time of 18:27.
Avon, which finishes 4-3 in the dual meet portion of the schedule, had several varsity runners take a day off to rest in preparation for next week’s Central Connecticut Conference championship meet.

FARMINGTON, Oct. 11, 2022 – Farmington’s Tara Pohorylo beat Avon’s Sierra Secor by 25 seconds to finish 11th and lift the River Hawks to a one-point win over Avon in girls cross country action, 34-35.
Farmington, helped by several Avon runners taking a wrong turn on the course, had the top four runners in the race. Avon had the next six finishers until Pohorylo cross the line for Farmington. Ava Keleher led the Falcons with a fifth place finish.
Anna Weygang won the race for the River Hawks with a winning time of 20:29 for 3.1 miles at Winding Trails.
