Farmington 57, Avon 33
SIMSBURY, Feb. 22, 2023 – Farmington retained the Taft Cup with a 57-33 win over Avon at Simsbury High on Tuesday night. The Taft Cup remains with the winner of each game between the two long-time rivals.
The game was played at Simsbury because the large Avon High gymnasium has been unavailable since late December due to a water leak that damaged the floor. The boys and girls basketball teams have been playing in the original Avon High gymnasium for home games but with the rivalry game with the River Hawks that always draws a big crowd, the game was moved to Simsbury.
Avon finishes the season at 4-16. Farmington is 13-7 and will play in the 16-team CCC Tournament beginning on Thursday. Farmington will travel to face No. 3 Bloomfield.
Windsor Locks can win NCCC title outright on Wednesday
WINDSOR LOCKS, Feb. 22, 2023 – Windsor Locks can win the NCCC title outright with a win over Suffield at home on Wednesday night.
The Raiders were scheduled to play the Wildcats on Friday but the game was postponed after two bomb threats, according to a report from WFSB-3 on Friday.
If Suffield (12-7, 7-4 NCCC) wins, Canton (12-8, 10-2) and Windsor Locks (17-2, 10-1) will share the league championship.
