Several Canton High athletes earned All-NCCC honors for their play this past winter but one athlete earned All-State honors and one athlete placed at the New England championships.
Junior Ruby Theberge, who became the eighth girl in school history to score more than 1,000 points, was named to the All-State team by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA).
Theberge scored a career-high 33 points in a single game in a win over Windsor Locks in December and scored 30 points in another game against Windsor Locks in February. She averaged a team-leading 16.5 points a game and sank 38 three-point shots.
Canton freshman wrestler Regan Murphy finished third at the State Open girls championships and finished fifth in New England, earning a spot on the medal stand.
Canton doesn’t have a stand-alone girls wrestling team but has several wrestlers that train all season long with the team and compete in girls-only tournaments and in some dual meets with the boys.
Sophomore Kayla Berning didn’t earn All-State honors in girls indoor track but she was third in the 600 meters at the State Open and took tenth at the New England championships in the 600.

Of note: Regan Murphy (145) finished third at the State Open and became first Canton girl to win a medal at the New England championships by finishing fifth

Of note: Canton is part of the Newington co-op program with Berlin, Manchester, Cromwell. The was the seventh year of Canton’s participation in the co-op program and the first time in seven years that the squad had a losing record. The top 16 teams earned a spot in the Division III tournament with Newington being ranked No. 14.
GIRLS HOCKEY

Of note: Canton is part of the Suffield High girls co-op ice hockey program. Other programs in the co-op are Ellington, E.O. Smith, Granby, Windsor, Somers, Housatonic, Manchester, Rocky HIll and NW Regional. It was the sixth year that Canton was part of the co-op. Prayzner was a second team All-State selection.

Of note: Berning finished tenth in New England in the 600 meters with a time of 1:37.30. Berning took third at the State Open in the 600 meters and was second at the Class S championship meet. She was third in the 300 meters at the Class S meet.
BOYS SWIMMING

Of note: Freshman Andrew Dauphinais earned 11 points for Canton at Class S championship meet. Dauphinais, who trained this winter with the Granby/East Granby co-op team, finished 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 21st in the 200 individual medley. As a team, Canton was 23rd out of 23 teams with 11 points.
