Burlington runners do well in Burlington to Collinsville Classic 10K

Perhaps there is a home course advantage.

Three of the top 10 finishers in Sunday’s Burlington to Collinsville Classic 10K and five of the top 20 finishers came from Burlington, where 6.2 mile race begins at Lake Garda School.

Zachary Barth, 20, of Burlington beat two-time champion Stephen Fengler of Wallingford by 10 seconds to win the 10th annual race in a time of 34:01. A year ago, Fengler beat Barth by nearly two minutes.

In the women’s race, Fengler’s older sister, Elizabeth, won the race for the fourth straight year with a winning time of 38:22, the second-fastest time in race history. Fengler, also from Wallingford, ran 38:22 a year ago and set the race record of 38:03 in 2023.

Barth, who ran track and cross country at Lewis Mills High, was one of three Burlington runners in the top 10. Alex Cavanna, 17, finished sixth in a time of 38:18 and Joshua Wroblewski was ninth with a time of 39:15.

Burlington’s Zachary Stone was 19th in 41:37 and Brian Samuelson was 20th in 41:42.

Barth is the first Burlington man to win the race. Burlington’s Mary Lynn Currier won the women’s race in 2017 at the age of 53.

Collinsville’s Lauren Longley finished second in the women’s race behind Elizabeth Fengler with a time of 41:48 with Avon’s Sarah Saindon taking third in 42:27.

It’s been a good spring for Elizabeth Fengler, who set a new course record in March at the 2026 O’Hartford 10K with a time of 37:25 in Hartford.

There were 715 finishers in the race, the highest number of runners since 2018 when 748 runners crossed the finish line in Collinsville.
