CANTON, May 14, 2026 – Voters in Canton did not approve of a budget referendum for the 2026-27 fiscal year on Thursday.
By a margin of 1,447 to 796, voters rejected the proposed town budget of $55.0 million, according to results posted on the town website.
The proposed budget would have raised taxes by 4.4 percent, according to a letter from the Kevin Witkos, the First Selectman, Lou Daniels, Chair of the Board of Education and Brian Miller, Chair of the Board of Finance.
