CANTON, June 2, 2026 – Voters in Canton rejected a second proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on Tuesday.
In a budget referendum, voters voted 1,303 to 1,049 to reject a proposed budget of $53.7 million, according to results posted on the town website.
On May 14, Canton voters rejected the first proposed budget of $55.0 million by the margin of 1,447 to 796.
For the second proposed budget, the Board of Finance was reduced $430,000, the Board of Selectman’s budget was reduced by $500,000 and the Board of Education budget was reduced $375,000, according to a post by First Selectman Kevin Witkos.
