WINSTED, Oct. 10, 2026 – Leading by two points at halftime of Saturday’s Naugatuck Valley League football game, Torrington surprised the Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op on the opening kickoff of the third quarter.

The Red Raiders began the second half with an onside kick which they recovered. On the next play, Torrington’s Nicholas Coleman raced around the end 42 yards to the Gilbert four-yard line.

Cameron Roxbury scored on a four-yard run – the first of five second half touchdowns by the Raiders on Saturday at Van Why Field as Torrington in 52-14 victory.

On Torrington’s next possession, Carl Salinas got around the end and raced 61 yards for a touchdown and a 32-14 lead after Coleman’s two-point conversion run.

Later in the quarter after a Yellowjacket fumble and a Torrington fumble, it was Gilbert with the ball on their own 27-yard line. The Red Raiders put pressure on QB Aiden Cassella whose pass was intercepted by Roxbury, who ran it in for a 25-yard touchdown and a 39-14 lead.

Salinas scored his second TD of the game on a 22-yard run with 11:00 left in the fourth quarter and Naziah Lopez.

Coleman’s nine-yard TD run and another two-point conversion run gave Torrington a 16-14 lead at the break.

Coleman ran for two touchdowns and four two-point conversions in the game.

The 52 points was the second-highest scoring output in the series. Torrington scored 55 points in a 55-21 win over the Yellowjackets a year ago.
