Canton girls easily handle Wolcott Tech in Class S tournament opener

Canton’s Emma Charron had a game-high 13 points as the Warriors opened the Class S tournament Monday with a victory.

CANTON, Feb. 29 – Emma Charron had 13 points and 11 of the 12 girls on the Canton roster scored at least one point as the No. 3 ranked Warriors girls basketball team easily eliminated No. 30 Wolcott Tech-Torrington, 55-20 in a first round Class S contest Monday night.

“It was a great opportunity for the younger girls to get some varsity playing time during the state tournament,” Canton coach Brian Medeiros said. “Our next game will be Friday at home against No. 14 Windham, which I anticipate to be a pretty solid team for us.”

The Warriors host the Whippets (12-10) on Friday at 7 p.m. at the high school. Windham, which plays in the Eastern Connecticut Conference, beat Parish Hill, 48-25. Shania Slyman scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Whippets while Nicole Rivera added eight.
