Avon boys rebound to tie Berlin, 2-2

BERLIN, Oct. 6, 2022 – Ian Nevins scored off an assist from Braden Gilbey with 5:09 left in regulation to help the Avon High boys soccer team battle to a 2-2 tie with Berlin in a Central Connecticut Conference game Thursday night at Sage Park under the lights.

Twice, Berlin had one-goal leads and twice the Falcons came back to tie the game.

Berlin (7-1-2) took a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game on a goal from Joseph Francalangia. Avon (4-2-3) tied it on a goal from Gilbey off an assist from Ryan Jezek with 14:45 gone in the second half.

With under 10 minutes remaining, Berlin took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Michael Abayomi but the Falcons tied the game for a second time on Nevin’s goal.

Buster Akers made eight saves in net for Avon, which was outshot by a margin of 13-7. The Falcons return to action on Tuesday when they host Rocky Hill on the turf field at AHS.
