Several Canton High athletes earned athletic awards for their play this winter. Hockey player Mason Buckley earned All-State honors playing with the Newington High co-op hockey program while Lyla O’Connor earned All-New England honors with her fourth place finish at the New England championships in Boston.
BOYS BASKETBALL

Of note: Canton is part of the Suffield High girls co-op ice hockey program. There were no Canton girls on the varsity this season. Other programs in the co-op are Ellington, E.O. Smith, Granby, Windsor and NW Regional. It was the fifth year that Canton was part of the co-op and this was the farthest the team had advanced in the state tournament. Tevelde, a freshman, was second team All-State in balloting by the CHSGHA.

Of note: Lyla O’Connor had a personal-best throw in the shot of 40-5¾ to finish fourth at the New England championships and earn All-New England honors. O’Connor was third in the shot at the Class S meet and at the State Open. Millner (300) and O’Connor (shot) each finished second at the NCCC meet. O’Connor finished 16th in the championship division of the shot put (4 kg) at the Nike national championship meet in New York with a throw of 12.07 meters or 39-7¼ feet. O’Connor was an honorable mention selection for GameTimeCT’s All-State team.
UNIFIED BASKETBALL
