Lacan heading to training camp with France, to miss four games with Sun

Second-year guard Lalia Lacan had a career-high 26 points in Friday night’s win over Phoenix.

Connecticut’s second-year guard Leila Lacan has been selected to play on the French team at the 2026 FIBA World Cup on Sept. 4-13 in Berlin, Germany. This tournament was formerly known as the world championships.

The WNBA will take a 17-day break for the World Cup tournament.

Lacan, a 5-foot-11 guard who is averaging 11.6 points and 4.6 assists a game, left Sunday for training camp and will miss the next four Sun games.

Connecticut, who has been eliminated from playoff contention, hosts Chicago on Tuesday and Golden State on Wednesday at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun (9-27) will be at Indiana on Friday and will be in Dallas on Sunday, Aug. 30.

A member of the French Olympic team that won a silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games, Lacan was an All-Euroleague first team selection. She averaged 12.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 2025. At the Olympics, Team USA beat France in the gold medal game, 68-67.
