Simsbury junior Naz King (2) ran for more than 200 yards and scored 3 TDs in Simsbury’s 41-6 win over Wethersfield on Friday night.
WETHERSFIELD, Oct. 30, 2026 – It’s a good time to be a player on the Simsbury High football team.
The Trojans are flying high after their sixth straight victory on Friday night with a 41-7 win over Wethersfield in Central Connecticut Conference Tier III play at Joseph Cottone Field.
It’s the longest winning streak for the Trojans since 2019 when they began the season with six consecutive wins – the last time that Simsbury qualified for the CIAC playoffs. And it is light years away from the past three seasons that saw Simsbury win a total of four games, including just one game last fall.
“We’re winners,” lineman Brett Osborne said. “We’ve accepted the change (in leadership this season) and we know how to play like winners.”
Junior running back Naz Gouldbourne King became the first Simsbury running back since 2018 to run for more than 200 yards in a game. King ran for a game-high 205 yards and two touchdowns in 17 carries. He had a spectacular rolling catch of a 19-yard touchdown pass in the waning seconds of the first half.
King is the first Simsbury back since Mark Bedson to rush for more than 200 yards in a single game. Bedson ran for 252 yards and three TDs in a 2018 win over Manchester.
“If you can run the ball like that and play good defense, you have a shot to win that game,” Simsbury head coach Jim Caouette said. “The offensive line opened up some really holes.”
Simsbury QB Braeden Siano completed 7-of-13 passes for 99 yards, including two receptions to King (two catches, 44 yards).
“Great vision. Great cutting ability, Catches the ball well,” Caouette said. “I am very proud of that young man. He works his tail off.”
King had a hand in four of Simsbury’s first five scoring drives.
Late in the first quarter after a poor punt by Wethersfield, King ran 25 yards to the one-yard line setting up a one-yard touchdown run from Cole Roberts for an early 6-0 lead.
On Simsbury’s first play of the second quarter, King broke through the middle of the Eagle defense for a 57-yard touchdown run. A two-point conversion from Braeden Siano gave Simsbury a 14-0 lead.
King made a great diving catch with 23 seconds left in the second quarter to give Simsbury a 21-0 lead at the half. He dove for the ball, pulled it in with one hand and rolled into the end zone.
On Simsbury’s first drive of the third quarter, King carried the ball for the Trojans. He had a 25-yard pass completion from Siano and ran five times for 32 yards, including a four-yard touchdown run for a commanding 28-0 lead.
King had a 35-yard run on Simsbury’s next touchdown drive as well.
A week ago, Simsbury outlasted Bristol Eastern, 27-14. That performance drove some of the preparation for Wethersfield.
“We were talking about it all week. We went into the Bristol Eastern (game) lightly. We weren’t going to let it happen again,” Osborne said. “We practiced hard and we executed with great precision.”

Simsbury allowed just seven points in Friday night’s win over Wethersfield for their biggest win over the Eagles. Wethersfield’s Isaiah Edwards is surrounded by the Trojan defense.
Simsbury was ready to stop Wethersfield back Isaiah Edwards. The Trojans didn’t give the running back much room to move and held him to 43 yards on 16 carries.
“We focused all week on stopping (Edwards),” Caouette said. “He is a really, really good back.” Simsbury gave up just three first downs in the first half and two were thanks to penalties.
Andrew Conversey scored on a 15-yard run for Simsbury with 2:37 left in the third quarter to extend the lead to 34-0 and Roberts scored his second touchdown of the game on a four-yard run with 10:28 left in the game for a 41-0 lead.
Wethersfield (2-5) did add a late touchdown in the fourth quarter with senior Daymian Rogers running for 64 yards on eight carries.
Simsbury (6-1) is ranked No. 5 in the CIAC’s latest Class L playoff rankings with the top eight teams earning an invitation to the playoffs. None of the three games remaining on their schedule and none of the teams — Newington (1-6), E.O. Smith (1-6) and Glastonbury (1-6) — have a winning record.
But Caouette isn’t taking anything or anyone lightly – especially with an opportunity to play in the CIAC playoffs for the first time since 2019 available if the Trojans can take care of business.
“We’re motivated right now,” he said. “We’re sitting in a good spot in the Class L playoffs. I think that is a lot of motivation for the kids. You can’t take teams like Newington, E.O. Smith or Glastonbury lightly, particularly Glastonbury. They’re a really good ballclub. Their schedule has been a gauntlet.”
This was the first game between the two schools since 2003. Simsbury and Wethersfield played each other yearly from 1975 through 2003 when they were members of the Central Connecticut Interscholastic League (CCIL) and then paired together in the CCC West for years.
Friday’s 41-point effort was the most points that Simsbury has scored against Wethersfield and was their biggest win (34 points) over the Eagles in the series. Simsbury scored 36 points against the Eagles in a 36-36 tie in 1995 and in a 36-6 victory in 2002.
