Two-time All-State football player Michael D’Onofrio will be honored as a scholar athlete by the Northern Connecticut chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. D’Onofrio is the 12th Avon player to win the Scholar Athlete award from the chapter and first since 2004.
D’Onofrio, who rewrote the AHS record book, rushed for a career-high 1,201 yards and 20 touchdowns last fall. He set new school records by scoring 24 TDs and scoring 144 points in a single season. He also caught 20 passes for 278 yards and 4 TDs.
Avon’s Bill Brown is also being honored with an award from the chapter for his dedication and work to the advancement of youth football in town.
