CANTON, June 17 — The Canton boys track team tied a school record by finishing 12th in Class S for the second time in three years. The Warriors earned 21 points, led by Erik Nystrom, who finished third in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:57.34. Mike Leduc was a strong fifth with a season-best time of 10:09.98. Nystrom is the third Canton runner to earn a bronze medal. Jasen Watson (400) and Nate Bussiere (800) each finished third at the Class S meet in 2007.
Two relay teams broke school records. For the second meet in a row, Canton’s 3,200-meter relay team (Matt Casey, Dylan Petruskevicious, Kevin Kurnat, Sean Murphy) finished seventh and set a new school record. The relay team finished seventh in 8:39.95, knocking off over five seconds of the time set a week ago at the NCCC championship meet.
Canton’s 400 meter relay team (Chris Hyde, Luke Talbot, Brian Lochner, Ryan Gallagher) took 14th place but set a new school record of 46.07, snapping the mark of 46.5 set a week ago at the NCCC championships.
Gallagher was 14th in the 400 meters (52.80) while David Kucia finished 12th in the 110 high hurdles in 16.80. Connor Smyth, who will try the CIAC decathlon, was ninth in the high jump (5-9) and 15th in the long jump (19-3). Colin Glasson was 11th in the shot with a throw of 42-2 feet.
The Canton girls team didn’t score any points but Tyisha Alexander did set a new school record with a jump of 4-8 in the high jump.
