Canton still in SCGGL title hunt

CANTON, May 24 — The Canton High girls golf team (16-3, 10-2 SCGGL) rebounded from a two-shot Southern Connecticut Girls Golf League loss to Cheshire on May 5 with a six-stroke victory over the Rams a week later, 200-206.

Nikki Liucci and Megan Roux each shot a 47 to lead the Warriors, just one shot shy of medalist Andra Frapper of Cheshire at Tower Ridge in Simsbury. Canton’s Kelly McAlindin shot a 52 and Emily Goeler shot a 54.

However, Canton stumbled badly in a 12-shot loss to Avon on its home course on May 17. Avon prevailed 208-220. Simsbury was a distant third with 244.

The Warriors won their next two matches with a dominant 45-stroke win over Hand, 190-235 and Haddam-Killingworth, 190-238 with Roux earning medalist honors with a 44 at Banner Lodge in Moodus. Against Hall, Liucci was medalist with a 44 at Tower Ridge in a 209-243 victory.
