MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 17 – Taking advantage of four Middletown turnovers, the Farmington High football continued on its march toward a possible berth in the CIAC Class L tournament with a thrilling 18-12 victory at Rosek-Skubel Stadium at Middletown High Thursday night.
The Indians (8-1, 4-1 CCC Div. II West) intercepted a pair of passes and recovered two fumbles that led to 12 points. After Farmington intercepted a pass and returned it to the Dragon 12-yard line, it took the Indians three plays before QB Brian Logan found Kenny Jones in the end zone for his 13th touchdown pass of the season and a 6-0 lead.
On its next possession, Middletown coughed up the ball with a fumble. Farmington responded with a nine-play drive capped off with a five-yard run from Ivan Guadalupe for a 12-0 lead. Guadalupe ran for a season-high 107 yards on 22 carries and 2 TDs.
Middletown (6-3, 3-2) cut the lead to six on a two-yard TD run from Devon Carrillo late in the second quarter but Farmington extended the lead to 12 on a 40-yard scamper to the end zone by Guadalupe. Carrillo’s five-yard run with 4:29 left in the game cut the Indian lead to six again.
On its next possession, the Dragons drove to the Farmington 18-yard line but a second interception sealed the win for the Indians.
Farmington closes the season by hosting Plainville (5-4) on Thanksgiving morning and hopes to win and clinch a berth in the eight-team Class L tournament. Farmington earned its eighth win for the first time since 2000, which was the final year in a six-year run that saw Farmington win at least eight games five times.
