Two athletes each from Avon, Canton recognized as Scholar Athletes

SOUTHINGTON, May 3, 2012 — The CIAC will host its annual high school Scholar-Athlete banquet Sunday at the Aqua Turf banquet facility in Southington. Four senior athletes from Canton and Avon will be attending the banquet. Avon’s Zac Cesaro and Emily Arciero will be honored along with Canton’s Tyler Detorie and Kiersten Kronschnabel.

Students are selected whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, personal standards and achievements are a model to others, and possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage. Approximately 1,700 people are expected to attend the event where a total of 343 students are being honored.

In addition to the students being honored, Darien High golfer James Burgoyne, who spearheaded the first high school implementation of the PGA Tour’s “Birdies For The Brave” program and raised over $3,500 for the families of servicemen and servicewomen stationed overseas, will receive the Michael Savage Spirit of Sport Award.

Meghan Pattyson-Culmo, a former UConn women’s basketball player, coach and current sports announcer and lobbyist, will be the keynote speaker. http://www.casciac.org/schath/
