Gavin finishes 10th in CIAC decathlon

NEW BRITAIN, June 13 – Canton’s Tim Gavin finished strong in the CIAC decathlon to finish 10th. Gavin finished third in the ninth event (javelin) and second in the final event (1,500 meters). He also had a sixth place finish in the 400 meters in 53.48 on day 1.

Teammate Cameron Daley was one of just four freshmen in the event and he finished 17th. Daley had top 10 finishes in the 400 meters (eighth), 110 hurdles (seventh), discus (tenth) and javelin (eighth). He was hurt not being able to clear the minimum height in the pole vault.

In the girls hepthalon, Canton’s Sarah Allen and Alex Martin competed on day 1. But they didn’t finish among the top 30 to compete in the final three events on day 2. Martin’s best finish was 31st in the 110 hurdles while Allen was 20th in the long jump. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Peter LeDuc finished tenth with a time of 10:23.65.
