MANSFIELD, July 23 – Connor Harris was 3-for-3 with a double and 5 RBI as Avon remained undefeated with a 12-9 win over Glastonbury in the Section II Little League Major Division baseball tournament (ages 11-12) Monday night in Mansfield. Avon had six players take turns on the mound.
Avon (12-0, 5-0 Section II) will face Guilford (3-2 Section II) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the tournament final with the winner advancing to the best-of-three state championship series. The winner of the state finals represents Connecticut at the Eastern Regional tournament.
Avon 5, Waterford South 2
MANSFIELD, July 21 – Pitcher Connor Harris struck out 11 in four innings to lead undefeated Avon. Sam Leopold had a three-RBI triple to give Avon a two-run lead in the fourth inning, 4-2. Adam Theriault relieved Harris on the mound and got a few key outs before Leopold iced the game by striking out all four batters he faced.
Avon 7, Tolland 2
MANSFIELD, July 20 – With a home run, Dylan Nastri now has five home runs in three Section II contests. Sam Leopold and Connor Harris added two runs each for Avon (10-0, 3-0 Section II). Eamon Moore and Dan Renwick had key hits while Blake Thompson added a home run.
Avon 10, Guilford 8
MANSFIELD, July 19 – Dylan Nastri hit two home runs while Connor Harris and Sam Leopold added one homer each as Avon won its second straight game in the Section II tournament. Ryan Ollestad had a three-run home run to give Avon a seven-run lead.
Guilford cut the lead to two runs with a rally in the bottom of the sixth inning but Avon turned a game-ending double play to preserve the win. Leopold fielded a hard hit ball, threw to Harris at first base for one out and Harris fired the ball across the diamond to Adam Theriault at third base for the final out of the inning.
Avon 11, Norwich 7
MANSFIELD, July 18 – Despite making several errors, Avon had enough to beat Norwich and win its Section II tournament opener. Dylan Nastri had two home runs while pitcher Connor Harris pitched well. Sam Leopold closed out the game on the mound.
