STAFFORD, Sept. 12 – The Avon High boys and girls cross country teams easily opened the 2012 campaigns with a pair of victories on Wednesday.
The Avon girls (2-0, 2-0 NCCC) are the defending league champions and they had eight runners in the top 10 as they shutout Stafford, 15-50 and beat Granby, 21-40. Rachel Rosow easily won the race for the Falcons.
In the boys race, Granby’s Dylan Chicoine outdueled Avon’s Justin Alessio in the final quarter mile to win the individual race by two seconds. But Avon put eight runners in the top 10 to beat Granby, 20-43 and shutout Stafford, 15-50.
