Fall 2012: Avon athletes earn all-league, All-State honors

Several Avon High athletes were recognized for their athletic achievements following the fall campaign.

FIELD HOCKEY: Mary-Margaret Stoll, Caroline Schaefer, Maddy Riccardi and Alana Puling earned All-NCCC honors. Stoll and Schaefer earned All-State honors while Riccardi was named All-State second team.

Stoll was recognized as an All-State Scholar Athlete while Schaefer was named to the Southern New England regional team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Stoll, Hailey Graff, Marissa Major, Nicole Rodier and Stephanie Sawicki earned Academic All-American honors. Avon (14-1, 11-1 NCCC) won its second straight league championship.

Quarterfinals: Avon 2, Hand 1
Semifinal: Wilton 2, Avon 1

GIRLS SOCCER: Goalie Kaylan Conrad, Catherine Jordan, Sarah Betancourt and Youn Jae Baek earned earned All-NCCC honors. Conrad and Jordan were named All-State.

Avon finished second in the NCCC behind Suffield with a 13-1-2 record before winning their second straight Class L championship.

BOYS SOCCER: Jackson Davey, Jason Leaning, Stephen Dorney and Jeff Demers received All-NCCC honors. Davey and Leaning earned All-State honors. The Falcons finished 12-3-1 in the regular season (third place) before advancing to the Class L championship game where they lost to Farmington.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: Rachael Rosow, Sarah Stokesbury, Molly Hamel, Maddi McHugh and Ryley Higgins earned All-NCCC honors. Rosow and Stokesbury earned All-State honors. For the third straight year, Avon finished 13-0 in the regular season.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Connor Wise, Michael Oberhausen and Justin Alessio earned All-NCCC honors. The Falcons finished 11-2 in the regular season.

VOLLEYBALL: Jackie Greenburg and Ariel Lepito earned All-NCCC honors. Greenburg earned second team All-State honors. The Falcons finished 12-6 in the regular season.
