CANTON, Jan. 11 – After losing 13 straight games, the Canton High girls basketball team is rolling in the other direction. The Warriors won their second straight game on Friday night, holding Stafford High to just 14 points in a 43-14 decision.
Canton (2-6, 2-5 NCCC) gave up just one point in the third quarter and four in the second half. Point guard Kat Winsor led the way with five steals. Erin Detorie, Maggie Treacy and Alex Martin did a good job of controlling Stafford’s two top scorers. It’s the fewest points allowed since February 2011 when Canton limited New Haven’s Amistad Academy to 15 points.
On the offensive side of the ledger, Treacy led the way with game-high and career-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior Amanda Curvino chipped in with 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Winsor had five assists and no turnovers.
The Warriors hit the road this week, traveling to Coventry on Tuesday night and to battle Somers on Friday night.
