Nikki Liucci, a freshman from Canton, will be playing in the Northeast Conference women’s golf championship tournament this weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla., with her teammates from St. Francis of New York.
Liucci has played well this spring for the Terriers. She had an 88 in the opening round of the Monmouth University Hawk Invitational and finished 24th in the tournament earlier this spring.
She does have a pair of top 10 finishes this spring. She was ninth at the Lonnie Barton Invitational and tied for fifth in the recent Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Md., with rounds of 88 and 85 for a 173.
Canton’s Travis Lane is having a fine spring season pitching for the Springfield College baseball team. Last week, Lane improved to 3-1 on the season by pitching 7.1 innings in a 16-0 win over Nichols College, striking out nine and scattering seven hits.
Lane has made five starts for Springfield (12-18) and pitched in six games. He has struck out 22 in 36.2 innings pitched. He has allowed 39 innings and just eight walks. The junior righthander is majoring in American Studies.
Junior Titi Van Riel, a former Avon High runner, finished third in the 800 meters over the weekend for Southern Connecticut State University at the Wolfie Invitational in Stony Brook, New York. … Avon’s Michael Munoz is 6-9 as the starting goalie for the Becker College men’s lacrosse team. Munoz is a senior.
