Avon High’s boys and girls lacrosse teams will be playing in a doubleheader Friday night at Suffield High. The Avon girls will play against league co-champion Granby in the NCCC Tournament final at 5 p.m. while the undefeated Avon High boys (17-0) earned a spot in Friday night’s league tournament final with a semifinal victory Wednesday over Ellington.
Avon baseball and Canton softball are playing in NCCC Tournament action on Friday while the NCCC boys and girls tennis tournaments begin today in Avon and Suffield, respectively.
BOYS LACROSSE: Patrick Driscoll Kelly had three goals while Colin Moore, Taylor Maniatty and Jeff Demers added two goals each as the Avon High boys lacrosse team finished undefeated for the first time in program history with a 10-5 win over Farmington on Tuesday. Goalie Cameron Dowd made eight saves to earn the win in net.
The Falcons finished the regular season at 16-0 and they won the NCCC championship with a 10-0 record.
Avon won their 17th straight game Wednesday in the NCCC semifinals with a 17-7 decision over Ellington at Buckingham. Tyler Mattioda had five goals while Maniatty had four. Demers chipped in with three. Dowed and Carlo Mando combined to make nine saves in goal.
The Falcons will take on the winner of Thursday’s semifinal game between Granby (10-6, 6-4) and Somers (12-4, 8-2) in the NCCC Tournament championship match. The finals will be Friday night at 7 p.m. at Suffield High.
GIRLS LACROSSE: Avon (13-4, 9-1 NCCC) will face Granby (11-4-1, 9-1 NCCC) in the final of the NCCC Tournament on Friday night at 5 p.m. at Suffield High.
The teams shared the league championship this spring, splitting their two games with Granby winning 12-8 in Avon and the Falcons prevailing on Granby’s home field, 17-8.
Avon beat Somers in the tournament semifinals on Wednesday, 22-10. Granby beat Suffield, 15-12 in the other semifinal clash.
Britt Douglas had four goals and three assists for Avon while Riley Hagan had five goals. Hunter McCarthy chipped with three goals and one assist while Kaylan Conrad had three goals and two assists. Paige Hammick made six saves in net for the Falcons.
SOFTBALL: The NCCC Tournament will be Friday at Veteran’s Park in Windsor Locks with semifinal games at 1 and 4 p.m. and the championship game at 7 p.m. No. 4 Canton (14-4, 12-4 NCCC) faces either Granby (18-1, 15-1) or Suffield (19-1, 15-1) in one semifinal contest. Ellington (14-3, 13-3) is No. 3 seed in the tournament.
BASEBALL: The NCCC Tournament will be Friday at Veteran’s Park in Windsor Locks with semifinal games at 1 and 4 p.m. and the championship at 7 p.m. Stafford is the No. 1 seed and faces No. 4 Enfield at 1 p.m. No. 2 Avon (13-5) will face No. 3 East Granby in the second semifinal at 4 p.m.
BOYS TENNIS: Avon and Canton will be competing in the NCCC Tournament today (Thursday, May 23) beginning at 10 a.m. at Avon Old Farms.
GIRLS TENNIS: The NCCC Tournament will be held today (Thursday, May 23), beginning at 10 a.m. at Suffield High.
GIRLS GOLF: Avon and Canton will compete in the Southern Connecticut Girls Golf League championship tournament on Wednesday, May 29, at Hawkes Landing golf course in Southington beginning at 3 p.m.
