Canton plays in state tourney for 5th time; Div. 2 postponed a week

Golf ballWATERTOWN, June 3 – The Canton High boys golf team played in the CIAC Division IV state tournament for the fifth time in the last six years on Monday at Crestbrook Park and finished 17th in the field of 20 teams. 

Canton shot a 365 and were led by Logan Anderson, who finished tied for 25th spot with a 12-over-par 83. Riley Hollis shot an 85 while Parker Lyons shot a 98, Jack Sullivan had a 99 and Vin Uccello finished with a 105 over the 18-hole course. 

Morgan won the tournament with a 327, just two strokes ahead of undefeated NCCC champion Coventry with a 329. Northwest Catholic was third with a 334. 

Canton finished the season with a 9-10 record and a 6-6 mark in the league. Lyons and Hollis were each individual medalists three times during the season. The team low score this season was a 159 against Sport Medicine Science Academy at Goodwin Park in Hartford. 

Division II golf tournament postponed a week
HEBRON – The CIAC’s Division II tournament was postponed due to the rain on Monday morning. Avon is the No. 2 seed in the 20-team tournament behind Hand-Madison. The event will be held next Monday, June 10. Avon finished second in the NCCC this season with a 18-3 record and 11-1 in the league, losing only to Coventry. But the Falcons beat Coventry by 10 strokes to win the NCCC Tournament last week.
