Canton wins third straight CWSL championship

CANTON, July 20 – For the third straight year, Canton captured the Connecticut Women’s Softball League tournament championship. Behind the strong pitcher of Katie Donovan in the championship game, Canton topped Rocky Hill, 4-1 to win the tournament. 

The team includes about a half dozen Canton players including Sam Arnone, Liz Mutch, Maureen Gauthier, Nicole Batan, Christina Cardwell and Amber Batan. Head coach Charley Batan and assistant Stephen (Spider) Eldridge are also from Canton. 

The league is a competitive fast pitch softball league for women over the age of 18. The league plays a 14-game season with doubleheaders on Sunday afternoon. 

Canton won the regular season title in 2012 with a 8-2 record and swept the post-season tournament as well with a 6-1 win over Suffield in the semifinals and a 3-0 win over Bristol in the finals. In 2011, Canton’s first-year in the league, they went 13-1 in the regular season and captured the league tournament with three victories including a 9-1 decision over Simsbury in the final.
