AVON – The Avon High Booster Club’s annual student fundraising event raised over $12,600 last weekend. Escorted by parent drivers, 179 athletes from fall, winter and spring sports teams at Avon High dressed in their uniforms to solicit donations for the Booster Club, which supports and enhances all of the athletic programs at Avon High.
Last year, students collected $11,000 in donations from residents.
Donations continue to trickle in from a direct mail campaign conducted over the summer. Residents interested in making a donation can do so via the club’s website at www.avonboosterclub.org or by mailing a check to the Avon Booster Club, P.O. Box 9, Avon, CT 06001.
“We are delighted about the student turnout, with 75 percent of AHS teams represented,” said Maria Mascoli, president of the Booster Club. “We thank the AHS parents who volunteered and the Avon residents who generously supported Avon athletics.”
All Booster Club donations directly benefit sports teams and athletes in the form of equipment and scholarships.
During the last school year, Booster Club donations funded new nets and goals for field hockey, an automatic timing system for indoor and outdoor track and field, a batting cage for baseball, a scoreboard for softball, and records boards for the crew and swim teams. In addition, $12,500 in scholarship money was awarded to 19 graduating scholar-athletes.
