Canton girls cruise; Avon and Canton boys drop contests

CP basketball graphicCANTON – Maggie Treacy had a game-high 14 points while Gabby Rose added 11 as the Canton girls basketball team (3-1) cruised to a 55-17 non-conference victory over winless Gilbert (0-4) on Monday night. The Yellowjackets scored two points in the first half and trailed 32-2 at halftime. 

Canton faces Hall on Friday at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader with the boys program at Canton High as part of Holiday Alumni Weekend. The boys team hosts East Granby at 7 p.m. The wrestling match with Enfield was held on Monday.

Lewis Mills 63, Canton 58
BURLINGTON – Rieley Hofffman and Cam Daley each scored 13 points but Canton (1-1) couldn’t catch Lewis Mills in a non-league contest Monday night. The Warriors trailed by five at halftime, 31-26 but Mills pulled away in the third quarter. Danny Kryzanski led the Spartans with a game-high 28 points.

Glastonbury 61, Avon 46
AVON – Playing their third game in four days to open the season, the Falcons couldn’t get their offense going quick enough in a 61-46 loss to Glastonbury. The Tomahawks held Avon to 11 points in the first half and led by 14 points after two quarters. Patrick McKearney led Avon with 15 points while Jake Sartain and freshman Nate Laszewski each chipped in with nine points each. Max Hummel led Glastonbury (2-1) with 16 points.
