BOSTON, March 1 – Canton High’s 4×400 boys relay team broke its own school record at the 27th annual New England indoor track and field championship meet Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on the campus of Roxbury Community College.
The squad of senior Wyatt Campbell, senior Colin Martin, junior Riley Hollis and senior Keith Wilson ran a time of 3:32.06, more than two seconds better than the time (3:34.23) they had to finish fifth at the recent State Open championships. The Canton team finished 13th in New England.
The Warriors won their heat, beating Xavier down the stretch by 0.59 of a second. It’s the best finish ever for a Canton relay team at the New England indoor meet. A 4×800 team from Canton was 15th at the 2010 meet.
Wilson also competed in the 55 hurdles. He finished 11th in New England with a time of 7.98 seconds, just a shade off his own school record time of 7.92 seconds that tied taking sixth place at the State Open. Wilson would have needed a time of 7.90 seconds to qualify for the finals.
Wilson was the fourth Canton individual to earn a bid to the New England meet. Matt Graziano (2013, shot), Brian Magna (2009, 1,000 meters) and Mike LeDuc (2010, 3,200 meters) previously qualified for the Warriors.
