Avon’s Jimmy Murphy (36) digs hard toward the end zone against North Branford last fall.

Two-time All-State linebacker Jimmy Murphy of Avon was drafted to play in the Connecticut High School Coaches Association’s (CHSCA) Super 100 Senior All-Star football game on Saturday, June 28, at Rentschler Field in East Hartford at 4:30 p.m.

Earlier this week, two teams drafted 50 players to form their teams. They’ll select another 50 to round out their rosters at a later date. Murphy was selected to play on Team Nutmeg, coached by Sheehan High coach John Ferrazzi.

Two players from Farmington, wide receivers Kenny Jones and Anthony Carpenter, were selected to play on Team Constitution, coached by Xavier High coach Sean Marinan.

Murphy was selected with the No. 31 pick and was the only Pequot Conference player selected. Jones was taken with the No. 26 pick while Carpenter was the No. 42 selection.
Murphy scored a game-high 25 touchdowns for the Falcons in 2013, including 19 on the ground. He ran for 1,140 yards including a season 160 yards against Cromwell. Avon went 8-3 on the season.
Jones caught 33 passes for 511 yards and six TDs for Farmington (9-3). He intercepted five passes on defense. Carpenter caught nine passes for 443 yards and four TDs. He picked off two passes.

The teams will begin practice in June for the contest.
