SOUTHINGTON, May 4 – Each year, the CIAC’s Scholar Athlete program  recognizes two high school seniors from each high school whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievements are a model to others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage.

The CIAC held its 31st annual banquet on Sunday at the Aqua Turf in Southington with nearly 350 students being recognized.

Avon High’s Sara Stokesbury and Jack Wendler were honored as Scholar Athletes along with Canton’s Alex Martin and Alex Daley. From Granby, Madison Dixon and Chandler Libby were recognized while Simsbury’s Sarah Mattison and Philip Brown were honored.

Fran Kennedy, president of the Connecticut Association of Schools, told the students that “your commitment to scholarship and to your sports is truly breathtaking.” John Holt of WFSB Channel 3 in Hartford was the master of ceremonies.
