CANTON, June 15 – Three Brass City pitchers combined to allow just four hits and struck out eight batters as the Brew dominated the Canton Crushers Sunday afternoon, 15-1, in a Tri-State League game at Bowdoin Field.
Spenser Griffin had two singles for the winless Crushers, now 0-8. Canton scored its lone run in the eighth inning on Derek Venema’s groundout to shortstop, scoring Jim Spirito. Alan Muneco and Spirito also had hits for Canton.
Ryan Plourd led Brass City (6-1) with a single, triple and two RBI. Steve Carosella had two doubles, one RBI and scored twice. Brass City scored nine runs in the seventh inning to extend its lead to 15 runs.
Brass City pitcher Gary Novakowski picked up his second win, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and fanning five. Joe Deming pitched three innings of relief, allowing one hit, one unearned run and striking out two. Connor McEvoy allowed two hits and struck out one in the ninth inning.
The Crushers return to the field on Sunday when they host the Winsted Whalers (1-5) at 5 p.m. at Bowdoin Field.
