Avon High football coach Jim Caouette helps lead a defensive drill on the first day of conditioning workouts for the Falcons.
AVON – Avon High football coach Jim Caouette is already thinking about the fourth quarter of an October game.
Caouette was full of energy on day one of conditioning workouts for the 2014 Falcons football team. As his players ran conditioning drills early Thursday evening, he reminded them – loudly, crisply and enthusiastically – that their hard work and sweat would pay off later this season.
A year ago, Avon was 8-3 in Caouette’s first season. This year, he wants to get the Falcons into the playoffs and into a state championship game. The season opener is Saturday, Sept. 13, when Avon hosts Ellington/Somers at 1:30 p.m. at the high school.
Avon has two scrimmages scheduled to prepare for the season. The Falcons will host Watertown on Wednesday, August 27, at 5 p.m. and travel to Newington on Thursday, Sept. 4, also at 5 p.m.
