COVENTRY – On October 10, the Canton High girls soccer team had just two wins and a tie after 10 games. They had six games remaining in the regular season. The Warriors went 4-1-1 with four consecutive victories to close out the regular season and qualify for the Class S tournament.

On Tuesday, No. 26 Canton made NCCC rival Coventry work hard to advance with a 1-0 decision in the first round of the Class S tournament under the lights in Coventry.

Amy Akerley’s goal was the difference for the Patriots, who scored three goals against Canton in a win in early October.

Amanda Gottlieb made nine saves in net to keep Canton (6-9-2) in the game. The Warriors had four shots on goal.
