Avon native Ben Smith and the Blackhawks face Boston Thursday night.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Avon native Ben Smith are on a three-game road trip through the Northeast.

The Blackhawks (19-8-1) beat New Jersey, 3-2 in a shootout, on Tuesday night in Newark and travel to Boston on Thursday night to face the Bruins. Chicago concludes its road trip with a game at the New York Islanders on Saturday night.

Chicago has won seven in a row and 10 of its past 11 games to move into first place in the Central Division. The Hawks were in fourth place on Nov. 16 when they beat Dallas to begin their recent run.

Smith has played in all 28 games and has two goals and an assist.

Chicago is playing without No. 1 goalie Corey Crawford but forward Patrick Sharpe returned after a month-long absence on Tuesday. For Boston (15-12-1), top defenseman and captain Zdeno Chara has missed 19 games since injuring his knee in October. He expects to return to the lineup against the Blackhawks.

The game against the Bruins will be televised on NESN beginning at 7 p.m.
