WINSTED, June 7 – It was a tough weekend for the Canton Crushers in the Tri-State League. The Crushers lost twice to drop to 0-5 on the season.
The expansion East Mountain Cougars earned their first win ever in the league at Bowdoin Field with an 11-0 decision on Saturday evening. Josh Dobratz allowed just three hits for the winners (1-1) while Dylan Oaks was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, one RBI and a run scored.
On Sunday morning, Canton traveled to Walker Field and was beaten by the Winsted Whalers, 16-3. Justin Morhardt was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored for Winsted (17 hits) while Tim Smith had two hits and scored three times. For Canton, Jimmy Spirito had a double and scored twice for the Crushers.
The Crushers have another busy weekend ahead. Canton hosts Watertown on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bowdoin Field and Tribury on Sunday at Bowdoin at 5 p.m.
