Serruta finishes 11th at Connecticut Women’s Amateur tournament

Golf ballNEWINGTON, Aug. 13 – Avon’s Autumn Serruta finished 11th at the 50th annual Connecticut Women’s Amateur golf championship at Indian Hill Country Club. Serrutta, who played golf at Avon High and Mount St. Mary’s in college, had a three-day total of 244.

Catherine McEvoy, 17, of Greenwich fired a 73 on the third and final day of competition to beat Jen Holland of Branford by one stroke to win the tournament with a three-day total of 227. McEvoy will be a senior at Greenwich High in the fall.

Avon’s Marissa Grillo and Canton’s Nikki Liucci also participated in the tournament.

Grillo, who will be a sophomore at Boston College this fall, finished tied for 12th with a three-day total of 248. Her best score came on day 1 with an 81 on the par-73 course. She shot an 83 and 84 on day two and three, respectively.

Liucci, who will be a senior at St. Francis College in Brooklyn in the fall, finished tied for 15th with a three-day total of 249. Her best score came on day two with a 79. She had a rough opening round (89) and shot an 81 on the third day.

Serruta finished with three birdies and an eagle in the event while Grillo and Liucci each had two birdies.
