The Avon girls, the defending Class MM state champions, swept the top five spots in the race, led by the Martin sisters, to win its 10th straight dual meet. Rachel won the race in 19:47 and was followed by her sister, Christina, who was second in 20:16. Senior captain Ryley Higgins was third in 20:45 followed by Sarah Leavens (20:48) and Ashley Martin (20:59) in fifth place.

In the race for the division championship, each team earns one point for a dual meet win and one point for each divisional opponent they beat the overall league championship meet on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Wickham Park in Manchester.
To add some additional competition, the Falcons are competing in five invitational events on the weekends.

Avon will also compete in the Winding Trails Invitational on Sept. 26, in Farmington, the Nonnewaug Invitational in Woodbury on Oct. 2 and the Wickham Park Invitational in Manchester on Oct. 10 – an early look at the site of the CIAC championship meets.
