CANTON – The high-scoring Canton High boys soccer team will get a stern test Saturday night when they host undefeated Coventry in the first game of the 17th annual night game soccer doubleheader on the turf field at the high school.
The Warriors (4-1-1) will face Coventry at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Coventry and Canton match in girls soccer beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Coventry (6-0) and Suffield (7-0) are the two remaining undefeated teams in the NCCC and the Patriots have scored their opponents 34-4 in their first six games of the season. Coventry shutout Enfield, 8-0 on Thursday night and whipped Hartford Classical, 8-1 earlier this season. The Patriots also own a 2-1 win over Granby.
Canton and Windsor Locks (4-2-1) are currently tied for third place in the NCCC. The Warriors battled to a 1-1 tie with Ellington on Thursday but have shown the ability to score this season. In the five games before Thursday, Canton outscored their opponents by a 25-10 margin.
Colin Madigan had his second career hat trick in a 5-1 win over Stafford in September while John Grasiano had two goals in Canton’s 7-0 win over Hartford Classical earlier this week. Jesse Waite, Madigan, Rieley Hoffman, Luke Brown and John Solomon also scored for Canton in the victory over the Gladiators.
Hoffman had four assists in the game and the Warriors scored all seven goals in the first 20 minutes of the game.
