MANCHESTER, Nov. 6 – Avon senior Ryley Higgins finished 34th at the CIAC State Open girls cross country championships Friday at Wickham Park to lead the Falcons to a top 15 finish. Rachel Martin finished 50th with a time of 21 minutes.
Avon, the two-time Class MM champions, finished 14th in the field of 21 teams with 327 points. Tolland outlasted CCC rival Glastonbury, 97-131 to win its third straight State Open championship.
On the boys side, Canton finished 21st in the field, led by Jake Whittingslow, who finished 61st with a time of 17:45. Canton finished second in Class SS a week earlier.
