STAFFORD, Nov. 20 – Chris Ramano caught a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Trevor Baker and the Spartans stopped a late fourth quarter drive by the Stafford/East Windsor/Somers co-op team to win a school record sixth game with a 33-27 Pequot Conference victory on Friday night under the lights.
Mills improves to 6-3 with one game remaining – its Thanksgiving Day game with Nonnewaug in Burlington at 10 a.m.
The Spartans built a 19-7 lead after one quarter thanks to an 85-yard kickoff return from Mike Ciccerelli, Tyler Mello recovering a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown and Chris Ramano with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Baker.
Stafford/East Windsor/Somers (3-6) took a one point lead at halftime, 20-19, on a pair of touchdown runs from Nate Lajoie and Justin Grant.
Mills took the lead for good in the third quarter on a three-yard run from Colin Kennedy and a second touchdown pass to Ramano from Baker. The Bulldogs cut the lead to six on an 86-yard fumble recovery in the fourth quarter but Mills stopped a late Stafford drive into Mills territory with an interception by Lucas Lanning to preserve the win.
Lewis Mills has won five straight games – another school record for the young program.
