AVON, Dec. 16 – The Avon High girls basketball team made its debut in the Central Connecticut Conference Tuesday night after more than 30 years in the North Central Connecticut Conference.
Avon senior Abby Laszewski led all scorers with 21 points while Kaleigh Sherman added 14 but it wasn’t enough as visiting E.O. Smith erased a seven-point halftime deficit to beat the Falcons, 48-47.
It’s just the second opening night loss for the Falcons since 2006. Bolton beat Avon by one in 2013, 52-51. Read more about the loss to the Panthers from Lori Riley at the Courant.
Avon, which was ranked No. 14 in the New Haven Register’s preseason coaches poll, travels to Windsor on Friday night for a 7 p.m. contest before their home opener on Monday, Dec. 21, when they host Conard-West Hartford at 7 p.m.
