EAST GRANBY, Jan. 26 – Everyone got a chance to contribute Tuesday night as the Canton High girls basketball team won their third straight game with a 70-31 win over East Granby in NCCC action.
“It was one of those feel good games,” Canton coach Brian Medeiros said. “Everyone got an opportunity play and it was great for team morale after Friday night’s fourth quarter collapse against Suffield.”
In the previous game, the Warriors had a 20-point lead over Suffield only to see the Wildcats cut the lead to two with a minute left. Suffield’s McKenzie Rusczyk scored 19 of her team-high 29 points in the fourth quarter including five 3-point shots. Canton held on for a 55-51 victory.

Against East Granby, Canton took command from the start and retained control throughout the contest. Maggie Treacy had a game-high 19 points and four 3-point shots. Emily Briggs scored 11 points and had five blocks. Abbe Skinner had 11 points and nine rebounds while Emma Charron scored 10. Everyone played and nearly everyone scored.
Against Suffield, Canton led 48-28 after three quarters. The Wildcats cut the lead to two, 51-49, with about a minute to go before the Warriors inched ahead for good. Canton sank their free throws and made a few timely stops on defense to preserve the win.
“The Suffield girls didn’t stop playing with the majority of our team did, which led them right back into the game,” Medeiros said. “Our girls played great team basketball for the first three quarters of the game.”
Briggs led the Warriors with 18 points while Treacy added 13. Charron scored nine. Suffield slipped to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in the league.
Canton (11-3, 10-1 NCCC) will now prepare for a challenge on Friday night when they face Bolton High (12-2, 10-1 NCCC) on the road.
