NEW BRITAIN, Jan. 8 – Farmington’s Adam Liu won two individual events and swam on the meet-winning 400 freestyle relay team as the Indians handed the Avon High boys swimming team its first loss of the season with a 98-87 decision at Central Connecticut State University Friday afternoon.
Farmington (3-0) won eight of 11 events to capture the meet. They clinched the victory with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay race.
Avon’s Riley Strassner and Kyle Emery each won an individual event and swam on the winning 200 yard medley relay team. Strassner won the 100 freestyle by 0.15 of a second over Emery while Emery captured the 100 backstroke by nearly six seconds.
Avon is competing in the Central Connecticut Conference this season – its first opportunity to compete for a league championship since 2009 when the Falcons were in the Nutmeg Conference. Avon will be in the CCC North White division with meets against E.O. Smith, Hartford Public, Newington, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield. The league championship meet is March 4.
Avon won its first two meets of the season with a 97-89 win over Holy Cross and a 95-69 decision over East Catholic-Manchester.
