GENEVA, Switzerland, Jan. 24 – Avon’s Madison Kennedy came away with plenty of hardware and records from the Geneva International Challenge swim meet this weekend.
Kennedy won three events and set meet records in each event. She captured the 100-meter freestyle and 50 backstroke on Saturday, setting meet records in both events.
On Sunday, she won the 50-meter freestyle in 24.94 seconds, breaking the meet record she set in qualifying of 25.29. Hungary’s Zsuzsanna Jakabos was second in 25.69 with Switzerland’s Sasha Touretski third in 26.10.
According to Swim Swam, Kennedy has the fastest time by an American in the 50 free so far this season. She swam the event in 24.72 at the recent Arena Pro Series in Austin, Texas. Simone Manuel swam a 24.83 at the AT&T Winter Nationals followed by Abbey Weitzel (24.86, AT&T Winter Nationals) and Natalie Coughlin (25.19, Arena Pro Series in Austin).
