BRISTOL, Jan. 16 – Life in the Central Connecticut Conference hasn’t been easy for the Avon High boys basketball team. Twice in the two weeks, the Falcons have given up 100 points in a game.
However, on Saturday night, the Falcons played better defensively in a 63-49 loss to Bristol Central.
The Falcons (1-7) led at halftime, 26-22, but couldn’t sustain their momentum. Jamil Hornesby led Bristol Central (3-6) with 18 points while Jaekwon Spencer scored 15 and A.J. Pahl added 11 with three 3-point shots.
Jordan Williams led the Falcons with 16 points while Bryan LaChance added 10, including a pair of three-point goals.
Avon won its season opener with a 71-65 win over Conard but have struggled since, losing seven in a row including a 100-63 loss to defending Class M champion Weaver and a 100-34 loss to Windsor on Thursday night. Weaver is ranked No. 2 in the most recent state coaches poll while Windsor is No. 5.
The Falcons return to the court Tuesday night when they host Glastonbury (5-4) at 5 p.m. They also host rival Farmington (3-5) on Friday at 7 p.m.
