Three Canton athletes earn All-State honors; team awards distributed

CANTON – Three Canton High athletes earned All-State honors for their play on the field this past fall. Junior runner Emily Briggs earned All-State honors in cross country for her 11th place finish in the CIAC Class SS championships, helping the Warriors finish third.

In field hockey, defender Sarah First earned All-State honors. First helped the Warriors advance to the Class S semifinals where they were eliminated by eventual state champion Thomaston, 3-2.

In boys soccer, midfielder Rieley Hoffman was named to the All-State team. Hoffman scored seven goals this season for Canton (13-5-1), which advanced to the Class S quarterfinals. He had 15 goals in his first three seasons with the Warriors.

Hoffman, First and runner Jake Whittingslow  earned All-Courant honors. They were selected as the best in their respective sports among athletes from the 82 schools that the Hartford Courant considers part of their primary circulation area. Several Canton athletes earned honorable mention honors in All-Courant balloting including Josh Frigo (soccer), Maggie Treacy (soccer), Emily Briggs (cross country)and Grace Giancola (field hockey)

Several Canton players earned All-NCCC honors. The team coaches handed out most valuable, most improved and the coach’s award at the recent fall sports banquet. Those honors are listed under each respective sport.
